Oil Leaking from the hoses on the top of the rocker cover

Hi,
Finally have my M38A1. Wes it appears to be a dutch vehicle by the information plates in the cabin. Repro ones have been fitted, but I also have the originals which are in Dutch. The spedo is calibrated in kilometers.
Original wiring loom, which I think I'll have to replace, since it if fraying in places, though all appears to work.
Main problem is as above oil Leaking from the hoses on the top of the rocker cover when running. Any ideas on curing? Engine seems to pull well without any undue noise. Starts first time from cold and hot. Puff of smoke from exhaust on stating from cold, then none.

Getting worse, quite a lot of oil coming from the vent tube on the top of the rocker cover. Also noted that there is pressure released when the oil filler cap is removed.
Any ideas, could it be the head gasket?

Hello Leo,
Sounds like the PCV valve is stuck closed. Unless you have a complete fording system then I would bet the fording valves are in the fording positon which pressurizes the crankcase. At any rate if you will just remove the oil filler cap the pressure issue will subside and you can work on determining which crankcase vent system you have.

Thanks Wes, As a complete beginner can you tell me where the PCV valve is and how to open it. I'm sure I don't have the complete fording system, no snorkle or anything unusual under the bonnet as far as I can see. I'm waiting for the manuals so I can work out what is what. Also I don't think the jeep has been driven much at all, though all the fluids have been changed and all the grease points have been seen to.
Can I drive the jeep withb the oil cap undone without problesm?

Hello Leo,

If you have the fording system installed you will have all the parts shown above. If not you will not have item "L". When "L" is closed or the PCV valve item "S" is plugged up the crankcase will pressurize and force oil out in many places.

If you have the fording system installed you will have all the items above. If not you will not have item "H". I assume the oil leak you have is coming from item "P" or "R". If you are sure it is a crankcase ventilating system hose that is leaking oil at the valve cover you can just remove hose "P" to indure the crankcase can breath.

If the oil leak you are describing is coming from elsewhere then the only oil carrying hoses up near the valve cover are the oil filter's. If these are leaking they must be replaced immediately.

The hose here in front is from the oil filter and is under full oil system pressure.

That's great Wes. The oil is coming from R that attaches to the crank case head.
I'm away from the jeep at the moment, so will look in detail tomorrow.

Problem solved. Fording valves were both shut. Dash leaver cable was not attched properly to the valves so had not opened them when pushed home. I've opened them manually and the leaking and mayonaise have stopped.

Can't wait to get the manuals so I can read up about the vehicle.
