Water Pump

It appears that I have begun to develop a leak from the water pump. I just noticed it yesterday after running it for a while. It looks to be coming from the underside of the water pump but hard to tell.
The question is, do these usually get rebuilt or just buy a new one/NOS/Reproduction? Thanks!

You live in Maryland. The Aberdeen Military Flea Market is coming up on May 22, 23 and 24.

It is worth a trip just to see all the parts. You can pick up a nice water pump there at the same time.

You can buy the kit or the pump. It is best to buy the pump with the double pulley already installed. The overhaul directions are in the service manual if you elect to buy the kit. It requires the use of a press.

Thanks Wes. I guess what I'm debating in my head is whether to spend the $$$ for a new assembly with the pulley or try to have my local mechanic fix/rebuild the existing one. At what point would you recommend buying a new assembly vs. repairing/rebuilding the old one? Thanks.

I rebuild my own. But I have been a mechanic for over 45 years.

I would prefer a commercial across the counter replacement with a good warranty service program if I were to buy a replacement.

Wes, thanks for the advice. I'm rediscovering my limits in auto mechanic skills. I used to run an autolube and repair chain in Santa Barbara, CA with my family and became accustomed to easy access to tools and knowledge there. I think I've forgotten almost all of it!

I looked through the manuals and it seems fairly easy to repair, with the right equipment, so I'll have my local mechanic take a look at it. He has the tools too!
