Windshield Adjustment Too Loose

On my M38A1 I have the opposite problem with the windscreen not being tight enough after applying the clamps. The previous owner placed a second gasket in the trough to make the windshield stay in position. I have adjusted the clamps all the way down. There does not appear to be excessive wear on the hinges. Is it possible for the clamping devices to stretch out of adjustment with use?

The bending of the hinges from pulling on the top of the windshield for years getting in and out of the jeep are the cause.
