Changing the YS carb

Iam going to be changing out the carb on my '52 M38A1 for a rebuilt one any tips to make this as easy as possible like good starting settings for set up. Thanks for any input. Scott

If the carb is a QUALITY rebuild all you should need to do is closed the idle mixture screw completely and then open it 1.5 turns then make sure the idle stop screw is backed away from the arm so you can hold the idle you want. You can set by ear or use a vacuum gage. Start the engine and set idle between 550 and 650 RPM. Adjsut the micture screw in until she runs slightly rough and rich. Now turn the screw in slowly untill you get the highest smooth idle or highest smooth vacuum reading. Reset idle and check adjustment one more time.

Make sure you use a new base to head gasket, make sure all vacuum plumbing is connected properly and tight, check all manifold fittings for tightness. Insure choke is adjusted properly (wide open when pushed in and fully closed when pulled out. Torque the two nuts equally and do not overtorque them.
