An original 51 M38 and an original 53 M38A1 sender and gage are the same. Both came with metal Douglas type connectors. If one has rubber Packard type connectors it is from a different and later application.

They both have douglas shell connecters on the power side but the M38 has a larger female diameter and only half as tall shell and connecter pin on the sender side of the gauge . I also want to thank you for your help this is a great web site
