my m38 engine was stuck from sitting. 1963 to 1997. .30 cleaned it up.

I hope the worst case with mine will be removing , carefully , the pistons and rods to make sure the rings are free in the grooves, since the rebuild has so few miles/hours on it . I don't think the cylinders needed boring when it was rebuilt. I suppose they were just honed. I forgot to say in my last post that I knew the machinist well that did the machine work and assembly on the engine. I'm sure he did a great job on whatever it needed , especially since he was doing the work for a coworker. I've already checked at the local Autozone and found that a headgasket set is $21.00 and an oil pan gasket is less than $10.00. There is only 36 or 38 thousand miles showing
on the odometer in the Jeep. The previous owner believes that to be correct. I'm anxious to get started on the project, but it will probably be a couple of weeks before I haul it home.

It would be nice if I had my Jeep running and driving already. It would be handy in the foot of snow we have on the ground. However, I don't think I'll be driving it for a while, unless I win the lottery, which isn't likely as I don't buy lottery tickets.Maybe I'll strike oil on my property. More likely than either is I'll sell the Jeep if I can recover my investment because I can't afford to buy parts for it. Watch the "for sale" section.Thanks

I thought the filler piece for the right side of my hood was missing. Today I found it under the drivers seat.Now if a right front fender turns up I'll be happy.

Dave, My address is Hudson. I live in the Cajahs Mountain section. It's about 15 miles from my house to exit 113 on I-40.

I know where that is. I have family in Granite, and I have been through Cajah's Mountain a time or twelve. Does that guy still have the used/new/trade golf club business down off road there in CM?

Sorry , I'm not aware of a golf club business in the area. It's a couple of miles from my house to the golf course on Connelly Springs Road that has been there as long as I can remember.I'm about a mile from the Speedway on Hickory Nut Ridge road. Have you ever heard of the Jeep surplus parts business that was up in Boone for years. I heard they had piles and more piles of surplus parts but the business was totally lost to fire a few years ago.

I seem to recall a guy who was into military surplus, but I never heard about jeep parts. That's a shame, particularly as I went to App and go up for football games. The wife couldn't have complained about a little side trip or two. Of course, you never know what is up some of those hollers. The monthly meeting of some MV boys is next Saturday morning, off of 321 at the Startown exit. I won't be able to make it, as the wife has a girls' trip to the mountains, and I have to look after the chaps.

0900 at the truck stop off of Exit 33 on US321. There might be anything there from a jeep to a 5T.

If you haven't found it, you may want to go to www.ncmvpa.com and sign up there. It isn't a high-traffic site, but it will keep you up to date on some things that are going on locally.

I'm planning on hauling my Jeep home tomorrow.If I can get the "hauler" out early enough I might haul it to the meeting.The weather forecast looks good for tomorrow.
