MX-735 waterproofing kit?

Post by BobW »

I have been trying to find out more about this MX-735 waterproofing kit with no luck. There is an article written by Richard Grace that mentions this kit. http://www.flmvpa.org/articles/armymotors_grace.htm
"The deep water fording capabilities of the V-35 were evolved directly from the MX-735 waterproofing kit, developed in 1947 for retrofitting to the G-503, WWII Jeeps. " Does anyone have more information about this kit?

Thanks

Bob,
A good place to start is with the MZ USMC WWII Radio jeep guys where this water proof 1/4 ton thing really started. Start with Mark Tombleson.

Bob,
Did you hook up with Mark? Did you see his comments on the g503 about the conversion?

My V35 has a civi distributor. The original distributor is going to be hard to find at a reasonable price! The remainder of my electrical system is mostly original.

Does everyone have the information they need on this topic?

Harold West was a BIG contributor on this issue. :D

So, what do we do about the distributor problem?

The progression from no suppression over the ignition system at all, then the 6 piece sheet metal covers over the coil, plugs and wires and distributor, next the aluminum clad Hallett suppression system with cables and shields for the plugs... finally the integral coil/distributor with cables to shielded plugs. All in 6v. 8O

And the waterproof/fording issues from cutting holes in the hood with asbestos grease on the ignition system to a workable permanent snorkel assembly at both ends. Very cool progression indeed.

If I could find one of these MX-735 kits, I would be very tempted to use it and have the wildest modification I know of... except of course for the MX-736 kit.

Working with these Jeeps is so cool! :D When you think you have it all figured out something else comes up. What is a MX-736 kit??

I'm baiting you a little BobW.

The MX-736MR is the power supply kit, basically turning the Standard MB into one that has the PTO, generator between the seats and the 2 batteries in their boxes behind the seats... very similar to what you would have in the V35/U. :D

There is also one other kit, the MX-566A/MRC installation kit. That is the waterproof box and accessories to install one of the several radios that went in the radio jeep. :D

Thanks,
