Exhaust

Post by Rick_L »

I just finished replacing the CJ exhaust I had with a military one. I used the new pipes that MW sells, and had no problems with installing or fitting everything in place. The one thing that stands out is that it seems considerably louder than the exhaust it replaced. Everything seems tight, and I can't find any leaks in the system, but it sounds like I have a cherry bomb on it, instead of a muffler, especially under load. Do these systems usually sound that much different that the CJ exhuast systems?

I know my M38 sounds more like a truck than my buddy's GPW. Same motor, different muffler. The difference probably comes from the baffle design inside. Might even have been some sort of military spec. Cherry bomb? Mine isn't THAT loud, but it sounds a bit louder at the tail end under load. Almost like a WC, but not quite.

Passed the state inspection without a word. Guess the extra noise must be in my head.
