Fuel pump spewing fuel from top....

Well I think my fuel pump has finally kicked the bucket.

A few months ago I had trouble starting my M38A1 after it had sat for awhile, I noticed my fuel pump had problems pulling fuel from the gas tank even with the fuel cap open once it had sat for a few weeks.

The only way to get it started was to prime the carb with starter fluid and crank it over and then the pump would start pulling fuel.

In attempt to buy more time I installed a primer bulb and used that to prime the pump before starting.

Now fuel pours out of the area marked in blue when it is primed.

My fuel pump does not look like the one in the manuals.

Does any one know what type it is?

I would like to get a good replacement along with the metal fuel lines that go from the fuel cut off valve to the fuel pump, and then the fuel pump to carb also.

Should I just buy a tool to bend the lines myself or do they sell some pre-bent kits?

The big issue I have is will a new fuel pump come with the correct bolts and gasket to bolt it up?

Any recommendations on a place to get a fuel pump from? Is the unit sold my Midwest Miltary a Omix-Ada unit or is it an American built one?

You've got the civvy F-134 dual fuel/vac pump. It will work just fine on your M38A1 unless you are wanting to return her to exhibition quality stock. You could easily spend $400 or so getting her back to stock. There's the cost of the old pump core you won't have to return, the cost of the plumbing and fittings and the cost of the new pump.

I would just remove the pump, clean it up and get the number off it's flange which mates to the engine block and call Then & Now and order a kit for it. That will get you on the road again for less than $150.

That cover on top is a filter cover and that gasket that is leaking can be replaced by removing that bolt straight out the top.

Ok I pulled the pump. Any idea what type or model it is.

The only marking i found is "B"

The thing was full of sand and rust particles I assume from the old fuel tank that was in it. The top part was also full of motor oil so I am betting that gas was leaking into the engine. Looks like I will need to do an oil change to.

Also the arm that rides the cam in the engine looks like it has a really worn spot so I am not sure if a rebuild kit would come with a new one or if I should just replace the entire pump.

I think it could be this airtex unit...which seems to be for an L-head.
