Fuel tank sealing

Hey, anybody had good results from a particular brand of fuel tank sealant? Any tips or helpful hints?

I've used Pro-seal 890 B 1/2 for over 40 years. It can't be beat. It is an aircraft avgas/jet fuel qualified sealant.

This is B2 which stands for a 2 hour working time. Takes a bit longer to cure than the B 1/2 I prefer to use. You can use either.

If you are looking for a general overall tank interior coating called slosh type sealer there are many on the market but they are only successful on an absolutely spotlessly clean tank interior. This will dictate taking your tank to a commercial chemical/caustic cleaning shop.

Hey Wes, can this product be used if there is still a bit of rust in the tank? I cleaned the tank quite well, but there is still some residual rust in there. The rust is not big flakey chunks, but rather fuzzy in spots. Thanks.

Another note on the fuel tank. It is not leaking, so is the sealer necessary if it is clean of all loose particles? Hope this makes sense... thanks

The tank must be spotless for the adhesion of the sealer/Slosh compound. If not the sealer will peel quickly and block the filter. Light surface rust with no flaking or scaling of material is harmless and all you need to do is keep plenty of gas in the tank.

The ProSeal I mentioned above is for sealing cracks, pin holes and other joint type leaks.

If you decide you want to coat the interior of the tank save yourself a lot of pain and cussing down the road and ship the tank to a commercial coating applicator like ReNuzit.
