M38 FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT

Post by 78670 »

I have an M38 with a dod of 3/52 that has been converted to a 12v electrical system. My fuel gage is a new 12v and the fuel tank is a new repro (my fuel tank was missing when purchased). My question is when I bought the new tank and the fuel sending unit I was told by the vendor that they only had a sending unit for CJ3A's in 12v and that I would have to weld an extention to the float rod to get an accurate fuel reading. Is this true? If it is, does anyone know just how long the float rod should be or how much I have to splice in? My other question is just how long is the original 24v fuel sending rod with the thought that maybe I can use that length??? Anyone see any other problems I might encounter?
Thanks, Ron

Ron,
My M38 is also a dod 3/52 ser# 59,148. What is your ser# ? I have pictures on page 7 of the photo gallery (dod 03-52) Always looking for a close serial number.

Bob, It's Ser #56989. Your photos look great, I wish mine was at that stage but I'm still rebuilding (3 years) but getting closer. Ron
