M170 update with pics
My kids went on a cruise with there Grand Parents and my wife had to work so I had alot of me time with the M170. Almost there. I am posting one picture here as a sample but page 4 on my gallery has alot more of the latest status. I put the water type heater on for now but I will be upgrading to the gas fired heater as soon as I pick it up. I will use the water one on the M170 that is waiting resto. The big things left to strip prep and paint on this one are; tailgate, windshield, stretcher racks (upper and lower), bows, and stencils. The hood is done but I don't want to put it on now. The engine and drive train are ready to run. When I install the batteries it should start right up. I had it running when I first installed it to look for leaks as I didn't want to be at this stage and have issues that caused me to remove it. I'm trying to finish it fairly soon so I can start taking it to shows. I bought an 18 ft steel deck dovetail trailer to haul it. I want to see how it compares to some of the other rigs I've seen at Petit Jean MV Ralley in Ar. plus any other show I might be able to attend.

I am working in a vacuum here with the internet being my only friend in this hobby. Just looking for feedback on how I may be doing. I'm kinda taking my own path which may be alittle over done but it keeps me happy.

Yes, you are coming along quite well.
The volt meter is usually used with the transistorized voltage regulator. The amp meter is used only with the early mechanical voltage regulator which you have installed. Wires # 8 & 9 are for use only with the early mechanical regulator and the amp meter. The volt meter should be connected to a switched power source so as not to be operating when the master switch is off which will run the battery down. How have you wired in your volt meter?
You have a nice photo of the battery internal trays. Do you by chance have a good photo from the bottom side with the box bottom removed?
I notice you have the early M38 round back horn instead of the late M38 and M38A1/M170 squared back horn.
We haven't nailed down a date on the switch from the M38 narrow bumper to the M38A1/M170 wide front bumper but I am thinking this switch occurred during 1953.

The round horn is what came with it. I have a square and another round so I can swap.
I do not have a pic of the bottom of the battery box.
The gage is correct for the M170 I believe. It is in the parts manual from the beginning and my wire harness only has a single wire hookup to it that originates from the on/off switch. It matches the wire diagram from the maintenance manual also. The part # on the gage is sw 504 E which is also listed in the maintenance manual. I have an electronic reg. which I can put in but I believe I am ok. Am I missing something? In a nut shell, The wiring is different from the factory for the M170 and always had a votage gage and a traditional regulator.
Weebee webbing did my seat covers and I had new pans made from rusty sample. They were lazer cut out to the exact same pattern and look factory.
The fording system attracts alot of attention from non mvpa people and I recieve the highest wow factor from this so I decided to put it in. I have yet to put in the vent for the gas tank and the brake master cylinder. I needed the body on for that so I will probably do that soon.
