info on CF# on draw bar,? on parking brake

Post by WESTCOMVIC »

Just started to strip out my M100...the stamped # on the LH draw bar is 53-70201....the data plate stamp is 0191, I don't know how others CF #s match? Does anyone know if the parking brake handle has a spring inside to return the depressable part to keep it disengaged from the ratchet teeth Thanks, its the start of a great project

The Manual shows a spring inside the handle and my handle springs back on its own.

From what I have been able to decipher Canadian Forces Registration numbers do not match serial numbers...

The 53-XXXXX that you found will be the reg number on the trailer if you return it to Canadian Markings...

Hope this helps...

Thanks, Rick
I guess that means removing the rivet that holds the outer casing and inner moving handle and looking whats required?

I haven't disassembled mine yet...I freed it up with some PB BLaster and elbow grease.

Hi Rick,
No amount of WD etc would free up the handle ,ground off the rivet and saw where the spring SHOULD be,but a bit of rusted coil was all that was left. cleaned up the inside and found an appropriate spring at Lordco, made a new rivet from 3" common nail..just like new!

I just picked up a second M100 with a disintegrated spring in the brake handle. How did you use the nail as a rivet? Looks like I'm going the same route as you....

Hi Rick
I cut the nail down to just over the length required to pass thru the outter and inner handle, rounded off the head end to look more like the original ,engaged the new spring in its position and held all in place with a small drift. withdrew the drift, replacing it with the sized nail. With the head on a metal block, piened over the extending end so it wouldnt come back thru the hole.Ta Da! Cheers
