M100 convoy light question

Post by WESTCOMVIC »

The switch on/off located at the right front just below the draw bar is rotten. The outer switch part and id plate is in good form but the rest is NFG. Any one know where I can get one. also any ideas on the original markings on the reflective plate on the trailer underside? Just a white line at bottom 1/3?

I was not aware that there was a switch on the m100's.
WWII trailer's had them, however I have never seen one
on a CDN M100.

Was there a switch on the M100's? Was this a US thing?

The reflective plate on the underside of my trailer was just
Painted white, the same as the rear diff.

One convoy light for the trailer, one convoy light for the
Jeep.
Both operated by the switch on the dash!

The US built M100 & M416's did not have a switch and did not have a convoy light.

OK, that clears things up a bit, the Canadian M100's did have a convoy light mounted to a bracket welded on the underside of the trailer floor.
The trailer light was controlled by the convoy light switch on the dash of the jeep, along with the jeep's convoy light mounted on the P/S rear frame rail.

Thanks Wes

M100CDN convoy lamp

Post by captw »

ECV Jeeps...the convoy lamp is controlled by a separate switch, NOT the dash mounted switch in the tow vehicle...the switch for the trailer convoy lamp is mounted at the extreme right front lower corner of the cargo bed...I know this, because my trailer has all of the convoy lighting intact...the switch is a two position unit, very similar to a M38CDN ignition switch, and there is a plate behind the switch which indicates on or off...W

Could you post some pictures or send the pictures to my email. I am very interested because my trailer is CDN purchased in Fredericton NB.
There is no indication of any switch of any kind on this trailer; on another note a previous trailer I had there was no switch either.

I would like to restore my trailer back to its original configuration.
I am wondering if there is any literature on the M100CDN showing the switch set up.

WESTCOMVIC, to find the original two wire switch may be difficult...I used an M38 ignition switch, and just used two of the connections, tied the others up and taped...the back of the switch on my trailer was rotten also when I purchased...W

Brand New!! Looks virtually identical to the Ignition Switch. However, this has only two (2) connections, power in & power out. NSN: 5930-00-409-0785, P/N: 11664684.

Excellent day when you learn something new.
I have a few extra ignition switches for the M38 and to convert one over to 2-wire is not a problem.

Is there anyone out there that would have a Canadian manual showing the switch and wiring harness for this trailer.

Also is the original switch a rotary or toggle switch? If it is rotary I can use an ignition switch like the on/off switch of the jeep or an original convoy light switch.
I would like to get the trailer as close to original as possible.

Thanks

Yo can request a photo gallery from Wes or use one on another site.
To post pictures they have to be uploaded to a server somewhere, I use
http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/
I also have one here
http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... _album.php
Both are excellent places to hold your pictures.
The pictures are displayed by the use of their URL or a link to their location on the hosting site.
You construct or type your post as you normally would and where you want a picture you copy and past the URL of the picture. This would look like this;Image
I have altered the link so that it shows up as text and not a pictures like the one following. I have added spaces before the Image
Sorry for the fuzzy picture but they get fuzzy when copied into paint, modified and re saved.
I like to use the "medium" sized picture to post only because it is of a good size to see most details.

If you still have a problem you can send the pictures to my and I can post them here for you.
pcn@ns.sympatico.ca

Hope this helped some.

Cheers
