m38a1 flywheel bolts

I need flywheel bolts the manuals description is 3/8 NF 24-2x1 5/32
What grade should they be?

There are 6 bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank.

Unmodified early flywheels used two tapered dowel bolts. Late and modified early use two straight shouldered dowel bolts. Then the 4 normal 3/8" bolts. They were all specialty bolts. Not common hardware. Their finished length is critical for clutch hub clearance. They should be installed into the crank before you install the crank in the block or at least before you install the rear main cap.

If so he can pull the rear bearing cap and put the bolts in. The key is which type dowel bolts he has. It is best if you have the tapered dowel bolts to upgrade to the new straight shoulder dowel bolts. To reinstall tapered bolts you have to ream the two tapered holes and you quickly run out of meat to ream which then forces you to the new style kit. The reamer has to be inserted in the crank hole from the front.
