Power Hook Up?

Post by Scott21 »

I finally have all the hardware for 24v directionals. I converted a civi set to 24v electronics, flasher and bulbs. Where should I tap in for power? Looking for the cleanest hook up possible.

I'd like to help but you need to supply more info.

1-What model jeep?
2-If M38 with or without circuit breakers.
3-If M38 with or without firewall mounted accessory plug.
3-Which ignition/master switch do you have? 2 wire, 3 wire or 4 wire?
4-Which civvy make/model turn signal switch.

Thanks Wes, she is a 1952 M38. The civvy system is the one the Kentucky DOT slapped on her and ran as a 12v unit. It is a 4 wire SP500 model, no other info on the system. I have it all hooked up using gamma taillights, and I converted the front blackout markers. I converted everything to 24v, GE1450 bulbs and a 24v flasher unit EG 22. Everything is installed, what is the best place to pull the power supply. Where would the accessory hookup be located if I have one.

A circuit breaker would be the preferred connection. This avoids overloading the main switch which if it failed would take out your ignition power and leave you stranded. Early M38's have the auxiliary power receptacle which is connected to the third circuit breaker and is the most convenient point to add an accessory circuit. M38's from beginning production thru serial MC47771 had the auxiliary power receptacle on the firewall. About the same height as your middle circuit breaker and about 3 inches towards the driver side. If you are after this serial you won't have one. If you do not have this auxiliary power receptacle then one circuit breaker is unused. Hook the accessory there. If you want the accessory to only work with the master switch on then use wire # 84 or 27 on your main switch and make sure you add circuit protection between the switch and the accessory.

It's the smaller hole passenger side of center with the 4 small screw holes.

Wes,

Found breaker #3 unused. I will be connecting this week. As always, thank you, you are a godsend with the M38. I will let everyone know how the gamma lights turn out.
