the motor was running when pulled and i removed it to replace my clutch...
I figured well while i have the motor out i might as well put a gasket kit on it and i did and cleaned everything up i did not tear the motor down completely... i am pretty sure i lined the dots up on the timing gear right and i have tried setting the timing to fire right when the piston is up...
it will turn over and over its getting spark and gas it has a 12v coil along with newer style distributor.. like i said it was running when i pulled it and put new gaskets on it and now it wont run.. its real frustrating i havent got to drive it in a year

Did you have the distributor and or oil pump off the engine?
I'd think real hard about running that thin wall non-fabric reinforced vinyl tubing with the screw clamps for the oil filter oil lines. Ask anyone here what happens when one of those lines let's loose!
Does that modern type spin on oil filter have a flow restrictor in it? If it doesn't you will have low oil pressure.

Then when you get #1 piston TDC on compression is the timing pointer tip marked TDC or "0" aligned with the notch or hole in the crank pulley?
If the marks are aligned then is the rotor in the distributor pointing at #1 spark plug wire?

I understand you have already told me there isn't a notch in the pulley. My question was is there a small hole in the rear flange of the rear groove of the pulley?
