Ramsey Model 200 PTO winch
A guy has this for sale, and I haven't heard of it. He says the capacity is 4,000, although I googled it and the results I got was that the capacity was 8,000. My main question is, does this work on my M38A1? Does it mate up to a Dana 18?

The only PTO winch and PTO that fits the M38 and the M38A1 with stock chassis, steering and exhaust with no mods is the Ramsey 50 or 50R with the 105 narrow PTO. Any other Ramsey or Koenig PTO winch will give you some degree of grief. The exhaust is the most common. None of the civvy winches fit the M38/M38A1 front stock winch mount frame. You will have to fabricate a mount if you can't acquire a CJ2A/3A mount kit.
When you want to examine the possible use of any civvy winch just look up the installation instructions from Ramsey or Koenig for that winch installed on a CJ3A. All the answers you need are there. You will have to modify your exhaust or buy a 3A exhaust system.

The CJ exhaust when used with the civilian low drop PTO's does not have to be rerouted. In Bill's case the CJ exh with the military PTO had to be rerouted which is an issue that had not been mentioned to now.

No what I said is the cj exhaust still has to be modified with the cj pto. I had a ramsey cj pto in my m38 before I got the ramsey 105a pto and ramsey 50 winch as I was orginally going to use a ramsey x200r winch. If you look at my photos you will see the winch I was going to use on the grey m38. If you read the cj install instructions you will see where it tell you to cut the pipe and use a length of flexable exhaust pipe to bring it under the tranny cross member. I can use the cj exhaust un-modified with the ramsey 105a pto.

Bill I am aware of all of that. Read my post again. I mention only the civvy lo drop PTO's. I have used them and the exhaust stays right where it originally was. The Lo Drop I am referring too is the re-indexing of the chain box for the wagons. It is angled one bolt lower. Let's try to keep this focused on the M38 and it's use of civvy winches with it's stock exhaust. .
