M38a1 seats

Post by RichJohnson »

What are the original size of the front seat cushions?

I ask becuase I had weebee webbing seats that were 18 inch seat cushion front to back.

I just ordered new covers for them from him, and instead he sent me whole new seats, wood, foam and canvass. I guess I wasnt clear enough when I said just canvass covers. Thats what I did last time and just tied them back over top of the degrading seat canvass. (2 layers of canvass) And that second layer I bought from him still fit the original ones I got from him.

So any way, the new seats are smaller, only 15 inches front to rear. Whats up with that. They are from the same dealer too. I just don't understand why my old ones were bigger than these, and the old ones were a bit more comfortable being longer.

I want to know whats the correct dimension front to rear of the seat cusion before I call him up and complain.

I'd be curious of the height as well. I sit up so high on mine, I have to stoop to see through the windshield.

Just measured mine; front seat cushions, front to back, 15 inches; side to side, 18inches.
The back rest cushions are 18 by 18 inches. Hope that helps. Andy

Thanks, my old ones were square 18". I guess now he makes them mill spec. I made the mistake when I got the jeep of selling the metal pans ans springs and hair cusions years ago.

My drivers side I cut down half thick because it was so much thicker than it should have been, my new ones I had to cut down half thick too because I sat up so high.

I kinda miss the larger sear cusions.

If you can, send those back and then take the old ones to a local auto upholstery shop and get cushions made to the size you want. They would probably cost less as well.
