Need help with rear axle shaft removal

Post by 32sbct »

Hello. I'm performing a rear axle service on my M38. I'm following the steps shown in TM9-8012. On step 9 (page 248) it says "Withdraw the axle shaft bearing cup and cone from the axle housing." Page 249, figure 97 shows that you just pull it out. I'm pulling on mine and its not moving at all. Did I miss something? Is there something else I need? Thanks.

Put the heavy washer and nut back on and borrow a jawed slide hammer puller to pull it. They are in there pretty good. John

They will pull out. Just put your drum on backward and the lugs partially on and it'll act as a slide hammer. A few bumps and it will pull out.
