Firing order

Hello everyone I have just fitted a new head gasket on a m38 engine the 12v one it hasnt run for sometime as it was siezed up someone in the past has taken off all the HT leads so i have no idea what the firing order is also what is the little pipe thing that sits just under the carb on the mainfold it looks like it should have a pipe fitted 2 it.

1-3-4-2 (Maintenance manual TM9-8012, p. 105, available in the Downloads section)

From your description, I'm guessing "the little pipe thing" is the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and the control valve for same (if still present). It's called "metering valve" in the documentation, but PCV is a more common term. See p. 113 of the maintenance manual for an illustration.
