Are the marks for the various switch positions on the
M38 light switch supposed to be OD or white? I've seen
them both ways.

While I was in the Army, when we would get new light switches, the lettering would all be in white while a lot of times if the vehicle was repainted, the switch would get painted also. I was in from 89-96 but am sure that it has been that way for a long time.

I bought a NOS from 1953 and it was painted. I am not sure about in production 1950-52.
I have seen the newer HMMVs in service with them painted and now all new vehciles have the push button style.
