M38 fan shroud

Post by SledDog »

I've brought my radiator and gas tank to "Performance Radiator" who claims they can bring both back to life. The unfortunate part is that the shroud on the rad is in pretty bad condition (Read: bottom rust). They removed the shroud and suggested I look for a fab shop that can rebuild it or patch it where necessary.

I've found a local fabricator that could do the work but is there anyplace that sells the shroud as a repro? I've looked online but haven't found anything that even looks close.

Much appreciated but I'm not finding it although I did see some other interesting parts. Do you have a direct link?
Sorry for the trouble.

Type in Ebay Motors auction # 320762750594. Or go to M38 parts and do a search for shroud. It's still there, looks great. John

It's a good thing you didn't win the bid. That's a CJ3A unit and will not work with the M38 or M38A1. That unit is brazed to the radiator body. The unit you need will have three mounting screw holes on each side .

The price was rediculous.

Here's the one I am talking about:

Good job John. My BAD I thought M38A1 I think because I just recently pulled one off. It helps when each poster lists his jeep model in his signature element. That's the last thing read and refreshes the head on us old farts!

SledDog keep looking.

It's always confusing talking about the two models of M38. Maybe the easiest way to ID them would be to say a Flat Fender 38 or M38A1. Anyway it's water under the bridge. Sleddog should look for a cheap radiator with the shroud on it. Then fix his. Shipping all that copper/brass is more than the shroud however. Keep looking, a deal will turn up as soon as you buy one!  That's my luck. John

I'll work on that signature today :D

The good news is that I got the radiator and gas tank back from Performance Radiator. They did a fantastic job!! $216.00 to refurbish both. Just need to paint them and find that shroud.

I wouldn't paint the radiator until after you braze the shroud on it. It would be best to return the radiator and shroud to the radiator shop and have them do it. Also have them paint it with the materials and methods recommended for radiator cores.

Apparently nobody has these things! How close is the civi version? Does anyone have dimensions or a comparison of the 2? I'm hoping it might work with a little modification.
