Good evening all I have a quick question how do I get the front hubs off my 44 GPW I have had the rear hubs off with no probs at all but the front 1s have diff locks or free wheeling hubs as some call them I cant for the life of me work out how they come off.
any advice would be great.

A picture could be useful. There are a number of brands of locking hubs, so there may be differences in how they attach. Regardless, I think they all bolt on to the front hub in place of the original drive flange using six 3/8"-16 bolts. You remove those bolts (visible externally), pull off the locking hub, and then you should see the large nut for adjusting the front wheel bearings in the hub. There will be a washer under that nut that will be bent up to keep the nut from loosening - bend it flat, remove the nut, and the whole hub assembly can be removed from the spindle.

I sorted out a few pics in the hope it may give someone a better idea of what i am having probs with I was thinking it should just pull out but thats not the case I dont want to damage anything on the inside of the shaft if i force it out.
It should just be the 6 bolts Jim mentioned and they should come off with just a little tug or tap on the side. You can see the 6 holes there on the outer circumference.
And a suggestion, use a wire brush attachment if you want to remove rust. Looks like you are removing base material with that grind wheel.
What did that axle come off? Is your rig a M38 or a 3A. Reason I ask, on a M38 axle, the brake drum is exterior and separate from the hub. 2A or 3A I believe you have to pull the hub to get to the brakes and the hub and drum are swagged together by the lugs. That looks like what you have there.
I removed the 6 bolts that hold the free wheeling hubs on but it wont draw out of the shaft in comes out about 2inch then stops.
its not a griding disk its a sanding wheel it takes off all the crap but doesnt damage the metal that way i can take everything back to bare metal before it all gets treated etc.
Don't know, I'm not familiar with those hubs. When you slide them out, what is revealed, just the axle shaft? Or is there still some part of the hub.
Regarding the flap disk, they will remove material also. Best to just use a heavy duty brush wheel. You'll see those sand marks after paint.
When I slide them out I can see very little of the shaft it some how feels like there could be something holding them in place on the inside of the shaft if that makes sence a bearing of sorts maybe.
I see what you mean by the sanding marks I will go to something a little less powerful.
that hub looks like it has a chrome cover over the actual hub. all lockout hubs on these ive seen split in half on the radius. there is a snap rng that holds the axle.shaft in position. i think rhe chrome will alip off (rusted on now) and rhe tru nature of the beast will be revealed
