under hood shovel

Post by gunter635 »

Did the 1953 M38A1 have an under the hood shovel? If not in 53, then when were they added? Thanks.

Hi Gunter,

I think all 'A1s had the under hood shovel. They were moved from the drivers side on the MBs to the passengers side on the M38 to under the hood on the 'A1s. The axe mounts in a bracket on the rear passenger side wheelwell.

Just picked up a correct hood Saturday for my a1 that has the shovel brackets. Now to sell the cj5 hood and roll bar that came off it. Does anyone have a picture or link to the axe placement? I've only seen a1's with a radio on the wheelwell, never an axe. I will most likely do the axe. There is an axe bracket for sale on ebay(I think). Boy this baby is coming along nicely. I need to get some pictures together and get them posted. Might start working on that this weekend.

Maybe some other members have photos in their albums?
