Wheels

Post by evanso1975 »

When I bought my M38, there were no wheels with it. These are the wheels I'm intending to use (until I can find a correct set at the right price):

They're actually off an old japanese jeep, but based on period photos of the M38 I think they're a fairly close match (and they were much cheaper than repro ones!). These particular wheels were run on a '42 GPW for about 10 years, so I don't expect any problems in using them on the M38.

What's your opinions on them? And can anyone post some photos of original M38 wheels as a comparison?

Thanks,
Owen.

Look like later style CJ rims, probably have 1/2 inch different offset from M38/M38A1 rims. Will not cause a problem. Like mentioned above, drill the small hole next to one of the lug nut holes and most won't notice! John

The safety bead is also missing from that wheel. It is a civvy wheel or a repop for a civvy wheel without the 1/8" hole, without the safety bead and with the wrong offset.

Thanks for the info, folks. While not 100% accurate, they'll be close enough for me.

Fyi, they're standard wheels off a suzuki LJ80. I guess they had to copy off something......
