Would the barcalo buffalo tools be the ones that would be era correct for the
M38 and is there any i.d. on them that i should look for?

We do not have any in depth study of correct era tools loaded here. Unlike the MB's the M38 did not come with tool kits from Willys, instead they were supplied at the using unit from Military stocks and would have came from many brand manufacturers. In many cases the military did not even supply spare tires, tire tools and such unless the jeep was used off the post or base. They were stocked at the motor pool and issued to a specific driver when he signed the jeep out for off post uses. Any attempt at deciphering which tools found on a surplus M38 were original period tools would be a very difficult task. One would need access to Army tool contracts from that period to determine how many suppliers there were of that tool then determine which version of each of those manufacturer's tool was used during that period.
