Generator Mounting M170/M38A1 vs. CJ5

Post by brachus12 »

We removed the generator from the M170 today to clean up that side of the block and prepare for the replacement grounding strap.

We discovered that the generator was spaced by various flat washers, oversized hex nuts and anything else that fit.

I want to take it back to original, but we have a civillian block installed.

The manuals appear to show much thicker mounting holes on the bracket and engine plate.Any easy ways to remedy this? I could replace the bracket with the M38A1 version, but then that leaves the front plate. Just fill it with spacers again?

If someone could post clear photos of a M38A1 generator in the mounts, it would help greatly!

To use the correct M38A1/M170 generator mounting bracket you must first use the correct M38A1/M170 front engine mounting plate. The reason for the washers is due to the mix and match of parts.

So to return to original you must have the correct two main parts.

Thanks for the clarification, Wes! We found your post on the Gee about it.

However, changing the front plate is not an option right now. We'll track one down and save it for when we start the frame off.

So we're going to try to use a better combination of spacers like this fellow to get the generator mounted again.
