Maybe after you finish removing the paint from the patent plate you can post a photo of it. DOT 3 brake fluid will lift that old paint right off without doing any damage to the etching or anodize.

Will do. It may be a while before I can post any more pics, though. My dad will be putting the jeep in dry storage soon, if he hasn't already. I'll be back in the States in a few months. Expect lots of progress then.

Sorry it's hard to see. The camera has trouble focusing up close. I inverted the colors so it's easier to read...

Also, found a take-out reel light on eBay at a reasonable price today. Went ahead and grabbed it.

Thanks,

Great shots.

Did you see the reel light priced over $1000 in Surplus City's Ebay Store?

Go to surplus city's web site and that light is listed for $595.

Go to the NOS M38A1 section... listed as

"810893 Lamp and Reel (M170) Take Out $595.00"

Also has the following NOS item for M170

808699 Stabilizer Bar Rear (M170 Only) New Old Stock $150.00

But they do say all prices subject to change :?

I've had m170 parts keyword tagged on eBay for a bit now, and it finally paid off. I found the reel light from a random seller for $150 plus shipping. Also a take-out. Pictures looked good. I believe it was one of those deals rdsar2k was referring to earlier in this thread. I have seen the ones advertised by Surplus City.

As for other parts, I have a few leads on fuel tanks. They are either NOS or decent take-outs with prices ranging from $400 to $800 depending on condition. I plan on getting the top bows from Ron Fitzpatrick unless I can find some used ones in good shape.

Now if I can only find some seat frames....

Repair-wise, I have secured an old CJ5 body tub that can donate what good metal it has left, namely the rear deck and rear corners. I won't be patching the bullet holes even though I originally wanted to make the jeep capable of fording again. Then I asked myself when I would be fording any water with it. I don't know how the bullet holes got there, so it could have been anything, but it's still an interesting part of the jeep's history I don't want to take away.

Found another M170 near home that is in pretty bad shape, but it has lots of good parts I can use. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the rare parts. The top bows are home-made.

I hate to part out a rare vehicle like this, but the body is mostly bondo and paint. The only good parts are the exact parts I need to replace in the USMC one. It has a good fuel tank with pick-up and sending until (still functional).

The toolboxes are clean(ish).

I'm not sure but I think this is a piece of the original driver's seat. It's been cut to allow for the lawn-mower seat to be attached.

It came with 5 stretchers with canvas. Again, I hate to part out such a rare jeep, but I really don't think this one could be saved. At the very least, it will continue on through another jeep.
