M38: Bench test 24V starter?

Post by SledDog »

I've been to every local shop and box store in my area to have my Auto-Lite MBP4301UT bench tested with no luck. They either do not have the equipment or cannot cross reference it to a modern day unit to calibrate what they do have. Is there a way to do this myself?
And, on that subject, what about the generator and regulator? I would prefer not to have to buy specialized equipment at this point.

btw, I did try searching the forums but came up with results that were basically the topics that were current.

Thanks!

Go to the downloads page and downloads those supplied Free copies of the appropriate portions of the TM 8-1825B that cover the overhaul and testing of each Auto-Lite electrical component.

Print the ones you need and hand the copy and the starter to a reputable auto-electrical shop. Any reputable shop that handles 24 volt civvy trucks and emergency vehicles can handle the needed bench procedures.

You can not properly perform the needed tests and maintenance functions on the starter/generator/voltage regulator without some specialized equipment and tools. Fir a list of needed equipment and tools just read the downloaded manuals.

You can buy complete reprints of the TM 9-1825B 1952 edition from Portrayal Press.

Very much appreciated Wes! Found a local Electric and Turbo place that could handle the work with the help of the manuals!

Starter tested out fine but they are keeping the regulator and generator until tomorrow. Hopefully all will turn out good.
