Valve Tick

My Jeep is 99% at this stage. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. The engine has 5 miles on it since rebuild. Oil compression is good, voltage is good, temp is good, but it has a slight tick. I'm assuming it is a valve tick. I did look back on the posts on this forum, it apparently it's pretty normal for F 134 engines, and just a minor valve adjustment is needed. I've gotten the suggestion that "it's probably just a sticking valve because the fuel isn't leaded. Add a tiny bit of transmission oil". Any opinions?

Valves don't stick on a properly rebuilt engine just 5 miles into the break-in time. Use your ears or get a mechanics stethoscope and pinpoint where the noise is coming from first. The tick can be a fuel pump to cam issue, a front oil slinger, crank thrust bearing issue, a piece of metal lying in a bad spot, a worn lifter or lifter bore, or simply a valve. Take this list of the 6 common ticks found in L & F 134's and check each one.

The rockers on a F head are prone to wear where the rocker touches the valve stem. It's very easy to give them too much clearance. Thus the tick. I also don't like the factory clearance setting. It's a bit much. I closed mine down some and it cleared up!

If the factory clearance was too much every new Jeep delivered would have sounded like a noisy sewing machine & quite frankly they did not.
I would not suggest reducing the factory clearance.
