altenator wiring
When using a civilian altenator can you put power to the wires of the voltage regulator wires straight to the dash gauges and switch? Trying to get a grip on the schematics for a m38a1. Thanks, for any ideas. RHarris

You'll need to clarify what make and model alternator, what the status is of your wiring (stock or modified), the voltage you will be using (12 or 24 V) and weather you are using an internal regulator alternator or using an externally regulated alternator.

wireing
Wes, I have most(missing a few ends) of a wiring harness. I have a single wire 50 amp alternator, 24 VDC. It is wired right to the starter lug with a 50 amp fuse in line. The wiring connection plug to the regulator, on the schematic reads of getting power to amp gauge and ignition switch. What I was asking is, can I attach the hot wires to the starter lug and go from there to the gauge panel ? Thanks for any info as I am not an electrician. RHarris

The military alternators were either 60 amp internal regulated or 100 amp external regulated. Are you sure that's a 50 amp alternator? Again the model number off the tag on the alternator is what is needed. The starter's battery supply lug is the common junction point for the main power out lead from the alternators. The circuit supply leads and field control lead locations depend on the make/model of the alternator and weather it's internally or externally regulated.
