floor pans

Post by xheadnut »

Last year bought new large floor pan and a used upperpan. Need to replace bubba homemade ones. When I went to put them in very few of the bolt holes on the lower one matched floor, tried upper to lower holes don't match either. Go to local supplier, he brings out five uppers and they are all different, in minor ways, one has no stater button hole, another has hole but only lower two holes match third is one inch high, two don't have hole for foot pad, ended up with an NOS1957, but don't understand all the differences. All of them were green except NOS it was primer red.

There are several possibilities. MD Juan, vs M38/M38A1 vs early CJ5 vs Other Repops over the years. The M38, M38A1 and M170 all use the same lower panels but the M38 used a different upper which was superseded by the M38A1 upper and the early M38A1 used the M38 lower cover but then it was superseded in the mid 50's. I can't imagine why any of the Willys built covers would have a bolt pattern difference at the seam between the two panels.

The dealer is Wallys sales between Kenosha and Racine, has been in the business since 1962. Bought my A1 from him in 1972 and at the time he was getting orders for parts from all over the world. As I was saying II just bought the NOS upper floor, 2 Years ago bought NOS top for m38, think he said last one on a pallet they bought in Japan. He has so much stuff I don't think he knows whats there. He has a 38 just inside the door under so many parts if you aren't looking for it you'll miss it. Has thngs from bolts to bodys new and used, have been in an out of there for 40 years and seen every thing from m1oo to halftrack, almost bought a Duck once, he's the one that had the A1 with factory diesel in early seventy's. Wally passed a few years ago and it is being run by his son Will who's been there his whole life. Marshall

I get stuff from John all the time, no complaints. But when things need to match I'd rather not play Mail Polo, sometimes after PO makes changes standard is no longer good enough.
