M38A1 Wiper motor spacers

Post by Phil4280 »

Hi there!

I'm trying to find out what the spacers between the wiper motor and the windshield frame consist of?
I have checked both the parts manual and work shop manual as well as forum search and what I have found to date is unclear other than saying there are 2 spacers per wiper motor.

* Are the spacers metal or rubber?
* If metal are they steel and what are their shape and diamentions? (so I could fabricate them)
* does anyone know if any one stocks them ?

Thanks!

At the bottom of this old list:
http://www.m38a1.com/Resources/project_costs.htm
the wiper motor spacers are listed as $15 from Midwest Military. That list is dated 2002 though; maybe an email/call to John would confirm if he still has them?

These are of a non-ferrous metal.
.50 outside diameter, .50 in length. Note that the center hole
is .375 dia x .29 deep @ 1 end, then .21 dia x .21 deep @ other
end. Both spacers are consistent with the offset hole depth.
In my mind, an easy shop fab. Hope this helps..

$15 each? Man, I'm in the wrong business! Those are easy to make. There's really not a need for the 3/8" hole on the one side - just drill a 1/4" hole through a 1/2" diameter rod, 1/2" long (doesn't even have to be aluminum - it all looks the same when painted OD).

Don't knock the price too much. $15 each = $30. I value my time at $50 per hour. Take a look at what a machine shop wants for one hour labor including setup and delivery of only two spacers!

The way I read that price list is 1 lot (i.e. a full set for an M38A1) at $15. Of course, only the guy that produced the list can confirm this.

Well thats not too bad - $3.75/ea + shipping. Still might be worth making them yourself, if you happen to run into a piece of 1/2" round bar cheap.

And the part I always like it's being able to tell people that you made them! This past reminded me that I need to make 1 more spare tire carrier spacer - thanks!
