wiper blades

Post by circleburner12 »

i ordered a pair of wiper arms, blades for the a1 from a popular mv dealer. when i open the bx the blades were 7 inches, should have been 9. the arms are adjustable from 7 to 12 inches but the old one i took off at the beginning of restore had an adjustable screw at the end of the arm. the ones i got did not have a adjustable screw but had a rivet. which is correct for the 53 a1?. if not he will get these back!!. thxs

It's a buyer beware world!!

The best course of action is to first research the correct part and then request it by it's specific part number. Then ask if their part carries that correct number and conforms to the drawing for that part.

Keep in mind that "Correct" does not always mean the same thing to everyone. We should always clarify what our interpretation of correct is when we are ordering parts. There's factory correct, field replacement correct and suitable substitutions that fit and function correctly.

The 500810 Arm (adj 7 1/2" to 12") and the 500813 Blade (9") are the original setup. After about 1955 the Army only stocked the 10" 500814 blades for the M38/M38A1/M170.

I don't think Willys/Kaiser did but there's no telling with the military in the field. As these jeeps aged in the field and supply started letting more and more parts become extinct the military often went to the local purchase system and shopped locally at both dealers and Auto Stores.

ok guys, i talk to the mv dealer about the wrong blades and arms. these are the only ones his has and has sold for years. they are not correct for the a1. im kinda getting tired of asking for the correct factory parts and getting something else. when returning them cost as much as the part.

as wesk stated beware on the parts you order and give the part #'s or you may mat get get something else!. dont take me wrong im not bashing these mv dealers, but you would think they would know whats correct and whats not. pm me for more details. if you would like. thxs

The sad part of the story is that the short blades (probably 7-1/4") are the rarer and more desirable size for halftrack and White scout cars! It is very difficult to cut down a longer Trico blade without damaging it.

here we go again, tried another well known mv vendor, tried to give the part number and was told, just tell me what its for. i still gave the number. when i got them they were the same ones from the other vendor.

so my question is the part number 50018 wiper arm does it have the adjusting screw at the end. because the ones im getting does not and has the rivet. thxs

If the fellow on the other end of the phone line is so thick headed he still sends you what he feels you should get then scratch him off your dependable vendor list. Or if you feel sorry for him then email him a photo of the one you want and see if both the hearing and visual portions of his brain are gone!

well, if i restore another jeep i will know who to call and who not too. whats sad about it we even talked about the adjusting screw at the end. and told him thats the arm i need and not the one with the rivet. so with less than 4lbs with a few other items, im stuck with these and a dang $29 dollar s&h fee! also.
