I have a stock F 134 engine and T90 transmission
And, with all the suspension, mounts, and so on rebuilt or replaced at this point, there isn't the huge racket the vehicle used to make going done the street. But I am noticing the gears are pretty loud. Like 18 wheeler loud. Is that pretty normal? I seem top remember my 1973 CJ5 with a T90 making ways less noise. It did have much higher gears in the axles, and civilian tires.

Moderate whine is common to T90. Not semi-whine.
T90 was used thru 1971. AMC built CJ's after 71 did not use T90.

The CJ 5 I had was kind of Frankensteined. Fiberglass body, 35 inch tires, 304 V8, I think you get the picture. I think "semi" is an exaggeration, it's just a bit noisy, especially at the higher revs.

I tried to feel out the top speed of mine a couple of weeks ago. At 45 - 52 (top speed I felt comfortable with), she was pretty loud. You can still hold a normal (slightly louder) conversation when driving though.

Take a ride in a bone stock M37. The howl you get in there is much higher then you should get in your jeep. If you jeep is that loud you'll need to troubleshoot your problem.

The transfer case shaft is know to cause noise.
