Speedometer problems

I have a new (NOS as far as I know) speedometer, and a NOS speedometer cable courtesy of Pete Debella. The Speedometer works, but it's reading way off. When I'm doing 35-40 it says I am doing 60. I've had the speedometer miss read on past jeep that I had a lift on, but I have no lift on this one. Anybody have any suggestions?

Mine does that, but that's because its a NEKAF and so is measuring Kilometers per hour, (64Kph = 40 Mph)

The old one I had said "Miles per hour" on it. The new one does not, which I have been told is more correct. It only goes up to 60. With the overdrive, I've hit 60 miles an hour, and the speedometer needle is way past the 60 mark on the gauge. Like if the 60 is due east, the needle is all the way down at due south.

That is an origianl AC speedo. The AC part number is right below the odometer. What make and part number are shown on your speedo?

Call Debella,send it back,and get another one.
An original has Miles Per Hour on it.
I have some originals that I turned back to zero,polished the faces,and painted the bezels for $50 if interested.

Debella sold me the cable, not the gauge. Do the gauges you have look and work good? Not all beat up? If so I'm interested. Shoot me an email with details! Dan@danhenk.com

So John, from Midwest Military, says the speedometer isn't the problem. Anyone have any ideas what is?

He says the pinion gear in the military transfer cases was different that the pinion gear in the civilian ones, and that is a likely cause. I had Novak rebuild and send me a transfer case. It has the correct military speedo keyed speedometer cable input, but the gearing might be wrong. I shot an email to Novak to try and find out. They have a great rep, but they don't work on many military jeeps. They sold me an overdrive too that was a mess, after it was popped on and off multiple times, I finally sent it back to them and bought one from Herm. That one worked immediately.
