High and low box leaking

Post by peterporsche »

Hello everyone I have a quick question that i was hoping someone could maybe answer for me.
I have gearbox oil coming from my high and low box its leaking from behind
the yoke where the front prop fits my question is has anyone had this same problem I cant seem to get the nut off from the yoke to check the seal behind it.
Any advice would be a great help.

The nut has a great deal of torque on it. I usually use a 1/2" or 3/4" drive impact gun on them. You can fabricate a holding tool for the yoke so you can apply enough torgue to the nut with a long breaker bar.

All the necessary instructions are in the applicable service manuals. There's an excellent rebuild guide for that D18 transfer case that covers in detail how to prevent leaks at the drive flanges and how to repair shafts that have seal grooves worn in them.
