Can anyone ID this fender blackout light

Post by 32sbct »

This clearly is not an M38 item. Does anyone know what vehicle it is from? It was in one of the milk crates full of parts that came with my M38. Below the light it says:

DC Electronics
MS513184-1-24V

I'm guessing its from an M151A2. I may use it until such time when I spring for an actual M38 light and guard.

bracket looks the same as mine but the light housing itself is different. They may have used different ones in different years in the US. Wes will know though I'm sure. 8)

That's a late M series light. That steel style showed up around 1960. In the early 70's the plastick lamp housing showed up. As far as I know Willys didn't use it on the M38/M38A1/M170 units.

Yes, this one has a plastic housing so it must be a 70's version. During the mid 80's my brother and I were both in a National Guard Scout Platoon and we used M151A2 gun jeeps. My guess is that this light found its way home with my brother, probably after we starting getting the HUMVEES and the jeeps went away. I recall quite a number of jeep parts like this winding up in a dumpster. There were quite a number of M151 parts mixed in with the M38 parts when I picked up the M38 jeep from his wife after he passed away.
