Identifying number of leaves in spring assembly

Post by Cacti_Ken »

About the leaf springs!! When counting total number of leaves in the assembly, do you count the shortest piece of flat bar also?

You count all leaves from the top main to the last on which sits on the square plate with the U bolts in it. You do not count the square plate with the u bolts.

Ok Wes, that is what I was thinking. The short piece of flat metal isn't exactly flat, It does have curvature in it to coincide with the others. I am going to disassemble the spring assemblies and hopefully clean them up for painting.

How does one determine if springs need re-arching? Do they have to be mounted on the frame with a load on them?

With the spring packs assembled but not installed on the jeep the eye to eye measurements are:
front 36 1/4"
rear 42"

More than that and they need re-arching.
