Actually that's an MD3 ground power unit. It has a horizontal opposed Continental engine driving three 28 volt generators and one 208 volt three phase alternator. The C-26 vehicle number is what I was used to seeing on them and the yellow is the correct color. The F86 was a 28 volt aircraft and the engine was started by the F86 engine's 28VDC starter-generator.
The OD wheel wells are quite obvious and easier to discern then those I posted above with the dirt in them. No one has noticed the OD wheel?

Back in the early '60s F86's were being "retired" to pylons across the country. One of my greatest memories is of my Boy Scout troop beingJim wrote:RickG. Nice pic of the 'Dog'
We had one on a pylon at the ANG base in Fort Smith
for years, but it's gone now.

Does the paint specification list any stencils for stars, or just for the hood number?WillysMotors wrote:Well it's been about 7 years since we last discussed this. Wes and Ryan have been quietly collecting data in the interim.
I believe it is now safe to say that Willys made M38's in OD 2430, Strata Blue, and Marine Corps Green - from the Toledo Factory !![]()
Here is the Master index calling out the BOM number.

Stars are a field painted item only.
Keith released a paint spec drawing several years ago that addressed the USAF registration number application to hood and bumperettes in yellow.
