I.D this jeep

Post by davem201m38 »

Hi all,
can anybody ID this jeep.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JEEP-M170-EX- ... 19db5a8104

I have a friend that is considering buying it, I've advised him to hold off as it doesn't look like any M170 I've ever seen but I'm no expert. I've told him to hold back and check it out as it looks like a long wheelbase CJ to me, but I just don't know.
I mentioned I did know just the people to ask...........
Thanks, Dave.

My best guess is a CJ6. Note the "Jeep" stamping below the cowl sides, and no elongated opening for the spare wheel. I think the M170 had the cowl battery box too. That windshield looks wrong, even for a CJ6.

May still be military though; the south africa defense force used CJ6's.

The only think close to military on that thing is the "olive drad" paint! It has right hand drive and a civy instument panel - not even remotely a M170.

It may have started life as an M170 or as a title for a M170 but what it is now is a Frankenjeep with a CJ6 tub, no idea where the dash came from, no idea what chassis, a diesel and a 5 speed stick. Doesn't look like any Mahindra or Viasa.

Hi all,
I figured it wasn't an M170 but couldn't figure out what it was as it isn't a UK spec CJ6, custom repro frankenjeep sounds about right.
I'll tell my friend not to waste the diesel going to have a look at it.
Thanks, Dave.
