I recently saw a post on this for an M38 but cannot come up with anything for the A1. I was at a military show/swap meet last weekend and purchased a NOS auxiliary plug (two prong) and would like to install it correctly. This part was not represented to be for an M38A1 but looked as if it would work.
When looking at the passenger floorboard and firewall, I see two small cover plates next to each other and in close proximity to the mounting location for the plug. I am not certain where the wire routing should be. Are those cover plates for a heater or to run the ground and positive wires through?
Anyone with an A1 and the plug could tell me how theirs is routed. The cable I purchased has a fairly long positive lead (about 48 inches) and a fairly short Neg. at about 12 inches. As that short one only goes to chassis ground I believe I can make it work. How the positive lead is routed is much more unclear. Help/advice appreciated.

The receptacle is a common M series hardware item. Cable length varies with the ORD part number used for a complete assembly with cables. These were always field installed. The Factory stopped installing these slave receptacles towards the end of the M38 production to reduce the initial acquisition cost.
You may be able to locate a copy of the arctic equipment installation manuals which usually include the installation of the slave receptacle.
