1961 M38A1 Passenger Seat
I went to a military vehicle meet recently and one person noticed that I have a passenger seat with arm rests and he promptly stated that it is incorrect for an A1. He pointed out that with the windshield down, the arm rests would/will hit the dash when rotated forward. Knowing that the 1960 and up A1's differ in some respects, my question for the forum is whether or not the seat is correct.
I noticed the armrests also have two holes in top of each arm indicating that a pad may have been there at one time. Anyone else with late models have these?

No data on any passenger seat for the M38A1 with any armrests. Your seats are owner fabbed or owner modified.

Wes. I know you have some good knowledge about the civilian vehicles. Would a CJ 5 have a similar seat? I.E., same seat back, frame and then have arm rests? Something like that could easily be swapped out.
This frame was very professionally welded and appears original. That is why I ask.

The 55 thru 71 CJ5 had no seats with armrests either. Even the fancy model CJ5's with the chrome bumpers (Tuxedo Park) only went so far as to have a 60/40 front seat but even then with no armrests. Armrests in these jeeps would only seriously hamper ingress and any chance of emergency egress. Sorry to say you are looking at well done customization.

Isn't that the truth! I had a General's aid ask us to make sure we had regular M&M's on our helicopter for the ride the next day. We politely told the LT. (we were E5's) that we don't provide food or snacks for the ride and he makes thousands of dollars more than us. If he wants M&M's, he can buy them from the PX just like everyone else. Of all the things to say in Iraq we had General M&M's..... General officers....whydahdvr wrote:Hey, you know how crazy some of those generals are! They might direct anything to be done to their "personal" jeep.

Jeeperjoe...I will have to take close up pictures as I do not have anything currently that would be descriptive. My wife does the photography so it will be a day or so before I get the pictures and get them downloaded to my computer. Then I would have to email them as I cannot post pictures on this forum. I will PM you to get an email address.

Thanks Wes. I have tried to do this before and got as far as it appeared like the photos were loading but it went on for hours and never completed the task. I plan to try again as I now have completed photos on the restoration of the A1 and a lot during the process. I am doing something wrong and it may have to do with image size. Or trying to send more than one photo at a time. Now that I am mostly (are we ever done?) done with the restoration I hope to have some time to wrap my brain around this process. I will save this info again and try soon. I will also update you on whether I was successful.

the auto resize is slow and may not work. Having them already the right size they load easy.

Plan on using photos in the 200K file size. If you are on a slow connection limit the loads to three at a time.
