Headlight Bucket Clips

A question on the clips inside the headlight buckets. I have looked at the TM and the ORD-9 SNL G-740 and have missed their purpose. I ran the search and stole Wes's picture. I am gathering that their purpose is to hold the Douglas connectors in place. Is that their purpose? Do they serve any other purpose, i.e. a ground? they are painted, can they stay that way?
From looking at the pic they they just hold the connector, just wanted to check before i close it up painted. Hope this isn't a stupid question as it is kind of obvious from the pilfered pic. The fuse holder look like clips at the base of the bucket.

Good guess. The BO drive light on the fender has the same clips inside, for the same purpose. No problem painting them; they don't work as a ground.
