I picked up a pair of "NOS" side curtains for the M38 some time ago. On closer examination, the trim (around the edges and the window openings) appears to be a light brown leathercloth (vinyl?) rather than canvas.
All the new-made canvas I see for sale (here in the UK) has this trim in a darker shade of canvas, not leathercloth. Anybody know what the original should be? Or is it simply that different manufacturers used different materials? From memory, I think the packaging was dated '58; I need to check at the weekend.
The curtains are stencilled 2540-769-7415 CURTAIN and 2540-769-7416 CURTAIN respectively.
Thanks for any input....

That late in M jeep history a lot of the fabric parts were fabricated by the installation fabric shops and placed in the local supply system marked with the appropriate numbers. I would say you have a surplused side curtain fabricated locally at a particular base.

Thanks for the info Wes.
I picked the curtains up from Dirk (the CMP guy) in Holland, so maybe they came from one of the bases in Europe.
I got some photos for future reference:
