Top-a-loan

Post by Bretto »

This will be a real long shot, and probably a fruitless request, but I want to make an attempt in making my own canvas top for my M38. Im throwing the idea out to see if someone has an original top they would lend me so that I could take some measurements from. It can even be in tatters.
I am sure somewhere out there, there are drawings but I wouldn't know where to source them, unless someone might know that?
Thanks all,
Brett

On your way thru here this spring, and if you can spare an afternoon,
you can make templates, take fotos and measurements from mine..

Thanks for the offer but I think that would take too much time and I would most likely miss something. Ideally, I'm really hoping to have one on hand to measure and make as I go.

Brett,

When you finish the jeep top project I have a M37 cab top project if you are interested.

Wes
I better see how this goes 1st before I commit to anything. If you have an old M37 top though I don't see that it would be too hard to mirror it.
Do you know of any military drawing sources for theses vehicles? I have heard vendors say they have made their tops and such from original drawings or specs but I'm sure they won't disclose their source.

I haven't seen any canvas layout drawings for these jeeps at all. I have been meaning to copy this M37 top for two years now. maybe this summer I'll get her done!

I have an old one that is suppose to be for an M38 that has several tears in it that you could use for the shipping costs. I will look at it this weekend to see if indeed it looks like an M38 top.

Brett:

I have one, complete, door covers as well. Shipping might be a bear from and to NC, but I would be willing to loan it to you for your project. Let me know.

Make sure you take into account the shrinkage of an old top. It can be pretty significant. Shawn

Brett I looked at the top this weekend. I believe it is an M38, however it is cut diffenrtly along the back that the other M38 tops I have seen, ie not straight accross. If you want PM me your email and I will send you some pictures if you want.
