Iddentify this part

Post by Roberto67 »

Hi, fellows!

A friend of mine, owner of a Willys M38 jeep, is trying to identify this part (outlined in red), its WO code, and where he could get another one.

Many thanks in advance!

Roberto,

That is the central tie rod, I don't have my stuff up here at work, but can get you the WO number later tonight.

Any of the suppliers should have this common part.

I also see them on ebay all the time.

:)

Some things in the photo caught my eye. Did you notice the shock absorber attached to the bell crank. And the fan belt angleing off to the right instead of to the left. Are you sure this is an M38?

Yes!

Here it´s a pic of the Jewel. But she´s very transformed. The engine is a diesel Perkins, and she has assistance driving or steering plus some more custom extras.

Yep, she's an M38 but the engine is not an L or F 134 nor is it a Buick/Dauntless V6. It could be a AMC 232 or 258 six since their belt would go that way. Steering stabilizers have been finding their way onto Willys jeeps since the late 50's.
