Recovering hood numbers
So I'm working to recover my hood numbers from under several layers of paint. I've been digging through the forums for a little while and only found a few vague answers of "use fine grit". Can anyone give some more detailed information on how to recover my hood numbers without wiping them out? Thanks in advance.

You need to sand the hood or other areas with 400, 600 or 800 grit wet sand paper. you can start with the 400 and as soon as you see different layers, switch to the more finer grits till you get your numbers... rinse often to keep the sanded material from blocking your view...

I have tried sanding and stripping with paint stripper. I had better luck with the stripper. NAPA sells it in a spray can for 6 or 7 bucks. You spray it on but don't wait too long. Then gently scrape or use a scotchbrite pad to wipe away one layer of paint at a time. You kill the stripper with water. Try a spot away from the #'s area first. With a little practice and knowing how long to leave the stripper working, it's amazing what you can do. Wear chemical resistant rubber gloves and don't get it on you or your eyes. John
