Can my windshield that was used with an arctic top be modified to lay down or would I need a totally different windshield?

It looks to be a whole lot of work, and then still might not work.

Man, your gas mileage would have to suck!

Yeah, that looks like it would take a lot of work. I'm with Brian... seems like it would take a lot lot of "bubba" ,so to say, to make it work ha ha ha. Is that the way the windshields get done up if they have the arctic top?

The geometry clearly will not let that windshield fold down. Any attempt to make it fold forward on the hood will result in the two vertical arms blocking the doorway. The solutions are tough and will require heavy modification of the two mount arms which will make it just as tough to convert back to arctic top use. Windshields are not that difficult to find. Keep in mind that a stock CJ3A windshield is easily converted to a M38 windshield.

Bruce, The 7 degrees of tilt on the standard windshield would not result in any measurable gas savings.

That frame is an original arctic windshield frame and it would be a shame to ruin it being as you have the rest of the top. Keep it as a package and get the correct standard frame.

BUT when you put on some goggles and put the windshield ALL the way down you might get some!

Didn't Jeep (or Fiat) try to claim "gas savings" in a couple of degree angle of the grill and windshield of the new JK vs like my TJ? Silly MPG ... nobody in a Jeep wants to play with you ha ha ha ha

The angle will come into play at higher highway cruising speeds. Wranglers and up could cruise at 70 or so, so a few degrees would make a difference but with 45-55 MPH jeeps that aren't cruised much on highways anymore would not benefit from the slight tilt change.

Boogeyin down the road with the windshield down and that lunchbox
of an arctic top open to the front would grab a LOT of air!

You are right Brian! Would be good air conditioning on a hot day!

actually I have put the top in storage and it will be the last thing I restore. May use it in the future for fun.

I had an M38A1 for several years in the 1980's in Rapid City SD and never could stand the hardtop look.
